What is Bombshell about?

Roger Ailes (John Lithgow) heads Fox News, the real-life cable television network. The film focuses on newscasters Megyn Kelly (Charlize Theron), Gretchen Carlson (Nicole Kidman) and composite character Kayla Pospisil (Margot Robbie).
Kelly is one of the network's most popular newscasters and is to co-moderate the 2016 Republican debate. On the day of the debate, she becomes sick, but still questions Donald Trump on comments he has made about women and if his temperament is appropriate for a president. In retaliation, Trump tweets insults about her and makes comments on television about her 'anger-menstruating'.
Carlson is removed as co-anchor of the popular Fox and Friends and is transferred to a less popular show. Inundated by sexist comments on and off the air, she meets with lawyers, Nancy Smith (Robin Weigert) and Neil Mullin. Carlson's contract prevents her from suing Fox, but she can sue Ailes himself. This would put her career at risk, but testimony from other women will help. Pospisil works for Carlson, but soon accepts a job on The O'Reilly Factor. Carlson is upset and says women should stick together, but Pospisil says she is loyal to the network.
Meanwhile, one paparazzo stalks Kelly's family outside her home, prompting Kelly's husband, Douglas, to kick the intruder out. Fox hires security for Kelly. Kelly complains about the harassment to Ailes, who tells her to ignore it. Kelly explains through narration that all Ailes cares about is appearance, which is why female news anchors are only allowed to wear dresses that expose their legs.
Pospisil embarrasses herself in front of Bill O'Reilly (Kevin Dorff) on her first day, and she gets drunk and sleeps with fellow staffer Jess Carr (Kate McKinnon). When they wake up, Pospisil says she is not a lesbian and is shocked to learn Carr is a liberal, but promises not to tell. The next day, Pospisil follows Faye, Ailes' assistant, into an elevator, who invites her to meet Ailes as a chance to be on air. Ailes asks Pospisil to lift her skirt to show him her underwear, which she does with great shame. Pospisil asks him not to tell anyone, which he agrees to, but he says he wants her loyalty in order for her to be on television. She tries to tell Carr about what happened, but Carr says she cannot get involved.
