Half-Life: Alyx is a 2020 virtual reality (VR) first-person shooter video game by Valve, developed by Half-Life and Valve.
Valve on Monday, March 02, 2020 released the trailer:
Half-Life: Alyx Gameplay Video 3.
Half-Life: Alyx is a virtual reality (VR) game and supports all PC-compatible VR headsets, including the Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest (using the PC-connected "Oculus Link" feature) and Windows Mixed Reality. As the gameplay was designed around VR, Valve said they have no plans for a non-VR version. Half-Life: Alyx also supports user mods via the Steam Workshop.
The game takes place before the return of Gordon Freeman in Half-Life 2. Players control Freeman's ally Alyx Vance as she and her father Eli Vance fight the Combine, an alien empire that has conquered Earth. Designer David Speyrer said Alyx was not an episodic game or side story, but "the next part of the Half-Life story", around the same length as Half-Life 2. Players use VR to get supplies, use interfaces, throw objects, and engage in combat. Like the gravity gun from Half-Life 2, the gravity gloves allow players to manipulate gravity. Traditional Half-Life elements such as exploration, puzzles, combat, and story are to return. Every weapon can be used one-handed, as Valve wanted players to have a hand free to interact with the world at all times.
Five years prior to Gordon Freeman's arrival to City 17, Alyx (Ozioma Akagha) and her father Eli Vance (James Moses Black) are captured by the Combine. Another Resistance member, Russell (Rhys Darby), manages to rescue Alyx and warns her that the Combine will transport Eli to a Combine prison for interrogation.
Alyx ventures into the Quarantine Zone outside City 17 to intercept the train carrying Eli. Along the way, she meets an eccentric Vortigaunt (Tony Todd) that makes vague allusions about Eli Vance suffering an untimely death in the future.
After making her way through the Quarantine Zone, Alyx is able to derail the train. The Vortigaunt rescues Eli from the wrecked train and Eli warns Alyx that, while in custody, he learned that the Combine are storing a superweapon called the "Vault" in the Quarantine Zone. He instructs Alyx to find the Vault and steal it before the Combine can move it to a safer location. Alyx then ventures throughout the Quarantine Zone, contending with various species of Xen aliens and Combine soldiers on her way to the Vault.
Eventually, Alyx is able to shut down one of the many power stations keeping the Vault afloat in the sky, discovering that each power station contains an enslaved Vortigaunt which is forced to channel its energy to the Vault. The freed Vortigaunt promises Alyx to take down the remaining power stations. Eventually, Eli gets into contact with Alyx and warns her that the Vault isn't a weapon; the Vault appears to have been constructed around an entire apartment building in order to contain whatever was inside it. The Vault was then made to levitate in the sky away in the deserted Quarantine Zone as some kind of extreme containment measure. Alyx continues on, reasoning that whatever is inside the Vault can help them fight the Combine.
